Alabama 3 Day Diet Review By Rod Ferris B.A., CPT (YMCA, ACE), CFC, CPAFLA

Alabama 3 Day Diet is meant for dieters looking for quick weight loss. This 3-day diet plan was originally implemented at the Alabama Hospital Cardiac Unit, Birmingham, for patients who need to lose weight quickly before having heart surgery. This cardiac diet plan is also known by several other names: American Heart Association 3 Day Diet, Birmingham Cardiac Diet, Bubba's 3 Day Diet, Kaiser 3 Day Diet etc. This 3 day fad diet helps you achieve a weight loss of up to 10 pounds in just three days. You can lose up to 40 lbs a month following this plan.

Among other things, the 3 day diet promises body cleansing, lower cholesterol level, increased energy and quick weight loss. It is advisable that you ask your doctor if this 3 day diet plan is safe based on your special needs before trying it. Remember that exercise is not recommended as part of this weight loss program.

You are advised not to vary or substitute any of the recommended foods. You may use salt and pepper. You may also add herbs, lemon, vinegar, soy sauce, mustard or ketchup to your foods. It is also recommended that you drink four glasses of water, diet soda or any other diet drink without sugar. No other seasonings are recommended.

You are required to follow this diet 3 days at a time. After 3 days, you can resume your usual foods. It goes without saying that you don’t over eat. After a few days of normal eating, you may repeat the 3 day diet plan. If you want to lose more weight you have to repeat the diet for another three days. Between the three days of strict dieting, you can eat normally for four or five days. You may repeat the cycle several times till a satisfactory level of weight loss is achieved.

An Easy Fad Diet

The Alabama 3 Day Diet is a diet plan for those who want to shed off their unnecessary weight quickly and without much strenuous efforts. The menu must be followed strictly if you want to achieve the promised results. Eating anything more than the specified menu is considered overeating and you are warned you will not achieve the 10 pound weight loss. On the other hand, the diet also stresses the importance of avoiding under-eating. You are required to eat the recommended foods even when you don't have an appetite. This 3 Day Diet is designed for people who want to lose large amounts of weight.

What To Eat on the 3 Day Diet

The 3 Day Diet consists of ordinary foods found in every grocery store. You need not buy any special expensive recipes, ingredients or frozen diet meals. The Alabama 3 Day Diet is not a starvation diet. In fact, you are required to eat carefully chosen balanced meals at normal times. The 3-Day Diet uses a combination of certain types of foods that bring about a specific metabolic reaction in your body. The chemicals boost your metabolism and help you burn your body fat at a higher rate than normal.

Day One of 3

Breakfast on the first day consists of coffee without sugar, one half a grapefruit or juice, and a slice of toast with one tablespoon peanut butter. Half a cup of tuna, a slice of toast, and black coffee are allowed for lunch. For dinner, 3 ounces of meat, one cup of string beans, one cup of carrots or beets, one small apple, and one cup of vanilla ice cream are recommended.

Day Two of 3

The second day’s breakfast consists of one hard-boiled egg, one slice of toast, one half of a banana  and black coffee or tea. One cup of cottage cheese or half a cup of tuna and five saltine crackers are prescribed for lunch. For dinner, two wieners, one cup of cabbage or broccoli and half a cup of carrots are recommended. Alternatively you may take turnip greens, half of a banana and one cup of vanilla ice cream for dinner.

Day Three of 3

The third day’s breakfast includes one hard-boiled egg, one slice toast and black coffee or tea. One slice cheddar cheese, five saltine crackers, one small apple and black coffee or tea are prescribed for lunch. The third day’s dinner has several options. You may take one cup of tuna, one cup of carrots or beets and one cup of green beans. Alternatively, you may take cauliflower and one cup of cantaloupe or one small apple and one cup of vanilla ice cream.

Do we like the Alabama 3 Day Diet?

Myfit doesn’t recommend any diet that can’t be sustained for a long period of time.  With this type of diet your caloric intake is well below your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) for the day.  Quick weight loss WILL be achieved but it will be through fat, muscle and water weight loss.  Ideal diets aren’t diets because they are sustainable with exercise and nutrition.    Diets that will eventually decrease metabolism when the dieter goes off the diet is strongly discouraged as yo-yo dieting results.
